Your questions, answered.

Straight answers about VC4, the Service2Create platform, functionality, hosting, and integration, everything you need to know before you talk to us.

About VC4

The company.

Why choose VC4's telecom network inventory system?

Service2Create (S2C) is an OSS network inventory and planning system that centralises all of your network data, physical, logical, and service, in a single platform. It interfaces directly with your network management systems so the inventory stays current, and it replaces a patchwork of separate tools and spreadsheets, delivering a strong return on investment.

Does VC4 also serve smaller operators and enterprises?

Yes. S2C scales to organisations of any size, and our cloud starter package supports up to three concurrent users, ideal for smaller operators, utilities, and enterprise networks.

Does VC4 support customers globally?

Yes. Our international teams operate across multiple regions and time zones, supporting customers directly or through our partner network.

Can I see a demo of VC4's telecom inventory solution?

Absolutely. Book a personalised demo and we'll walk you through the platform using scenarios from your own network environment.

Does VC4 offer proof-of-concept?

Yes. Proof-of-concept engagements are available in consultation with VC4, contact us to discuss scope, data, and success criteria.

How established is VC4, and who uses it?

VC4 brings two decades of network inventory management expertise. Our platform runs demanding, real-world networks, from GÉANT, Europe's research and education network moving 1.4 petabytes a day, to the EllaLink transatlantic subsea cable connecting Europe and Latin America.

About Service2Create

The platform.

If I purchase VC4's solution, which products do I get?

VC4 offers one product: Service2Create (S2C), formerly known as IMS. All capabilities are delivered as modules that operate within the same platform, so you purchase exactly what you need.

Can I purchase additional modules later?

Yes. Modules such as network planning, GIS, leased line management, IP management, telephone number management, integration, reporting, order management, impact analysis, and warehouse management can be added progressively as your needs grow.

Who is the owner of the data in Service2Create (S2C)?

The data in the S2C database is always the customer's property, no exceptions.

Does the system require configuration or customisation before going live?

S2C is a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solution. It is highly configurable but does not require heavy customisation: on-premise installations can be operational within weeks, and SaaS deployments within days.

What is VC4's offer with the SaaS solution?

A fully hosted and managed solution that includes maintenance and support, bug fixes, and new feature releases, so your team can focus on the network, not the software.

Is there an option for a trial period?

Yes. The SaaS solution is available with a three-month paid trial, including support, data migration, and training, with no obligation to continue at the end.

Functionality

What S2C can do.

What kind of networks does S2C support?

S2C is technology agnostic, any telecom technology is supported, including WDM/OTN, MPLS, IP, fiber, FTTH/GPON, DSL, mobile networks (2G through 5G), microwave, WiFi, VSAT, subsea cables, SDH, SONET, and voice technologies.

What modules are available in Service2Create?

Network planning and inventory, GIS, leased line management, IP management, telephone number management, integration, reporting and dashboards, order and trouble ticket management, impact analysis, and warehouse and spares management.

What kind of equipment does S2C support?

S2C is a multi-network, multi-vendor inventory, it is not restricted to one type of network or supplier. It covers MPLS/IP, WDM/OTN, fiber, GPON, Ethernet, mobile infrastructure, SDH/SONET, microwave, broadcasting, subsea cables, WiFi, VSAT, ATM, voice, and synchronisation systems. New vendors and equipment types are added without software updates.

Does S2C support the processes in my organisation?

S2C supports all network-related processes, including service delivery, fiber deployment, network design, scheduled maintenance, fault handling, warehouse management, and site acquisition.

Does VC4 offer a telecom GIS function?

Yes. The sophisticated telecom GIS module manages fiber and copper networks with full physical and logical topology mapping, and supports impact analysis and single-point-of-failure calculations.

Does S2C support GPON and FTTH inventory registration?

Yes. S2C registers every element a GPON/FTTH network touches, from the OLT and splitters through to the customer premises, so your as-built picture stays reliable. See our guides on effective GPON registration and the FTTH registration mistakes to avoid.

Can S2C track lit versus spare capacity on WDM and subsea networks?

Yes. S2C gives a consolidated view of WDM assets so you know exactly what's lit, what's spare, and what's earning revenue, essential for high-capacity backbone and subsea planning. Read more on consolidated inventory for WDM planning.

Technical

Hosting, security & IT.

Is S2C web-based or a thick-client application?

S2C is fully web-based and can be opened in every modern browser, no client installation required.

Is S2C installed on-premise or in the cloud?

Three deployment options are available: SaaS in VC4's cloud, SaaS in your own cloud environment, or a traditional on-premises installation.

Where is the S2C data stored?

Depending on your preference: in a cloud database, an on-premises database, or your own cloud environment.

In case of SaaS, where will my network inventory data be stored?

The S2C cloud solution runs on globally distributed data centres, 40+ regions across 22 countries, with dual regions in 10 countries, complying with regional data regulations.

How are permissions organised in S2C?

Permissions are set per user group, and individual users can belong to multiple groups configured for specific roles: read-only, equipment building, connections, administration, finance, and more.

Does the SaaS version offer the same functionality as on-premise?

Yes. Identical modules and functionality are available across cloud and on-premises deployments.

Is VC4 ISO 27001 certified, and how is my data secured?

Yes. VC4 B.V. is certified to the ISO 27001 information security standard, audited by TÜV Rheinland, and operates a formal Information Security Management System (ISMS) that continuously assesses and reduces risk to customer data. Read the announcement on our ISO 27001 certification.

Integration

Connecting S2C.

Does VC4 have experience migrating data from existing or legacy systems?

Yes. Our team has replaced commercial products, proprietary tools, and spreadsheet-based systems, handling the data mapping and migration into S2C as part of the implementation project.

Can S2C integrate with my existing OSS/BSS and network management systems?

Yes. The Integration Module connects S2C to your NMS/EMS and OSS/BSS stack via APIs, keeping the inventory synchronised with the live network and your surrounding business systems.

Does S2C support automatic network discovery and reconciliation?

Yes. Discovery interfaces read the live network and reconcile it against the planned inventory, flagging discrepancies so your as-built data stays accurate. Read more in our article on automatic discovery & reconciliation.

Can S2C drive network automation?

Yes. S2C acts as the single source of truth for network state, which is exactly what automation platforms need to act safely. Our partnership with NetYCE pairs that accurate inventory with intent-based automation, accurate network state driving automated change.

Implementation & Training

Getting up and running.

How long does it take to implement Service2Create?

It varies with scope: cloud starter versions deploy within a month, most implementations take 6–12 months including data migration and training, and large-scale deployments may extend to a year.

Does VC4 give support on Service2Create?

Yes. Maintenance and support services are provided following completion of the implementation project.

Is Service2Create training available?

Yes. We offer multiple training options, including basic user training, administrative training, and customised programmes tailored to your teams.
