Interactive map

Each object displayed in the network map is associated to information from the database.
IMS will automatically draw the connectivity based on the information stored in the database.

Geographical background

VC4-GIS mapping software works with numerous GIS/geo background data providers, such as Openstreet Maps, Google, Bing, ESRI, backgrounds from government.

Multiple formats of background layers can be supported.

Network map functionalities

The interactive map provides easy access to add objects, hide or display objects and to create exports.
The multi object create function helps users to quickly engineer new networks.

Connection types
A user can decide what types of connections to be displayed per network map. For example, in a MPLS map, only show MPLS connections types, in a fiber map, only fiber network connection types, etcn

Highlighting connections
Connections can be highlighted on the map. This is done with a bold green line.

All network connection layers can be highlighted. For example VLAN, L2VPN, 2MB, etc. Work paths are highlighted in greenprotection path with a red line.

Add objects
Database objects can easily be added to the Network Map with a simple mouse click.

Network maps can be exported in KML/KMZ format and Autocad (.dwg). Reports can be generated that include images, such as network maps, equipment views, floorplans, racks, cable routes. These reports can be saved in multiple file types, for example PDF, Word, HTML.

Display or hide objects
Users can choose which objects are displayed or hidden.

Auto routing
Auto routing functionality can automatically find the optimum route through the network.

Multi-create functions
The system has the ability to create multiple objects in one action. This helps IMS users to quickly enigneer new networks.


  • Multi create sites including automatic retrival of address + latitude/longitude information.

  • Multi create sites, and utilize templates to automatically implement equipment, ODF’s, and/or spliceboxes.

  • Multi create connections and automatically connect to ports.

  • Multi “patch” connections from one ODF/Splicebox to multiple ODFs. For example, for a FTTH use case: IMS has the functionality to connect multiple households to one splicebox in a manhole).

  • Create new equipment/DDF’s/ODF’s in multiple sites.

Line color settings
The colors of the lines (connections) on the network Map represent different functions:

  • Status of the connection (blue “planned”, green “in service”, purple “ready for service”, etc).

  • Type of connection (product code). Users can configure a color per type of connection/product.

  • Used capacity. IMS calculates the used capacity and displays in green (capacity available), yellow (medium capacity) or red (at or near capacity).

Show additional information
With tick-boxes within the menu, users may switch on/off additional information on the screen like:

All lines
In the scenario where there are multiple connections between two nodes, the IMS user can decide to display it as one aggregated line or display it as separate connections.

Easily zoom in and out using the graphical or geographical view.

Depending on how the user’s permission are defined, the user has the ability to add, move/position, and delete objects.

Circuit draw
Users can draw a new connection from a starting node +port towards a second node. IMS will display the available ports automatically. In the case of fiber trench, the geo route can be drawn directly on the map.

Measure distance
Users can measure the distance within a map using point and click functionality.
