Networks Management with VC4-IMS
The main purpose of the VC4 Services and Inventory & Management System (IMS) is to help businesses to better manage their networks. This is something that can be done through extensive planning, as well as managing network changes.
From tracking equipment to monitoring connections and capacity, VC4 offers a comprehensive solution that integrates seamlessly with existing network systems. With IMS, you can stay ahead by efficiently managing your network’s physical and logical components, making it a powerful tool for your overall Network Resource Management strategy.
Network Planning and Design
What kind of network planning and design can be done with IMS?
Two of the core features of the IMS tool are that it can be used for network management planning and managing changes. In addition to managing current infrastructure, the IMS Operations Support System (OSS) application can be utilised by network planners to both plan and design new network expansions and modifications before it is built within the existing one. Whether you’re upgrading your network or expanding into new regions, the IMS solution enables you to simulate scenarios, optimize designs, and make data-driven decisions that align with your long-term business objectives.
Worflow Management
IMS Network Planning can be used in conjunction with IMS Workflow, to allow for a seamless experience. However, if you don’t wish to use the workflow function in IMS, you can still link it to another such system or order management solution you may be using, which makes the tool highly adaptable to the needs of any business.
Network Interfaces
VC4’s IMS Operations Support System (OSS) can link up to and support other systems and applications that a telecom service provider may be using. Breaking this down further, IMS can support include COBRA, TL1, MTOSI, SNMP, those based on XML, database-to-database interfaces, flat files, telnet/SSH and properietary interfaces.
Auto Discovery & Reconciliation
One of the most common reasons for telecom service providers to link IMS up with another interface is for network auto discovery and reconciliation purposes.
The software will take a snapshot of the NMS data, comparing it with information stored in the database.
Platform Management
What platforms does IMS support?
VC4-IMS supports all platform types including but not limited to: MPLS/IP, SDH and Sonet, WDM/DWDM/CWDM/OTN, Ethernet Services, Mobile Core, Backhaul and RAN and GPON.
Fiber | FTTH | FTTX | GPON
You can use IMS to register complete FTTH, FTTx and GPON networks, incorporating everything from fiber cables and splitters to physical and logical connections, up to customer services and VLANs.
WDM | DWDM | CDWDM | OTN
VC4 gives telecom service providers the ability to manage their WDM and OTN networks. The software offers customization options, allowing telecom service providers to display a range of information – such as location, card and ODF details – on the screen.
MPLS | Internet Protocol
Telecom service providers, who are using the Inventory & Management System (IMS) from VC4, can enjoy a wide range of features, including the ability to use the entire MPLS Network Inventory for all MPLS and IP network related issues.
Network Equipment
How can IMS help with managing network equipment, resources and assets?
Alongside helping with the general organisation and control of the networks a telecom service provider is using, VC4’s Inventory and Management System (IMS) can also assist with managing the equipment stored within each one.
Telecom Equipment Types
The IMS software application has the capability to model all kinds of telecom equipment types, such as MPLS, IP, WDM, OTN, SDH, SONET, PDH, Voice, Mobile Core, Backhaul and RAN for 2G/3G/4G/ 5G, DSL, Microwave, GPON, Ethernet and more.
IMS is vendor independent, so all types of all vendors can be modelled on IMS. This is for both active and passive equipment.
Network Equipment Building System
With our Network Equiment building system telecom providers can store equipment (network elements) with related information in the IMS software application.
In our Network Equipment building system the following information can be stored: node name, status, type of equipment, equipment location, loopback addresses, versions, serial numbers, barcodes and more.
Managing Distribution Frames
IMS can help with the management of distribution frames, including patch panels, digital distribution frames (DDF) and optical distribution frames (ODF). The software allows for cables to be made between frames and equipment, different frames, and the frame and a leased line.
In addition, individual cables can be layered into main cables, while graphical views can be drawn to show the end-to-end routes of these wires.
